My Professional Journey

My Professional journey started in 1992 after enlisting in the U.S. Air Force as a photographer. I was stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base, which is located on the central coast of California. During this time I learned how to communicate stories visually as I documented local events on base, troop deployments, studio photography, missile launches and joint service readiness events. During my enlistment I had several temporary duty assignments including serving at the Pentagon receiving and cataloging images from around the world. These images were used in high level briefings by senior military members. I was awarded multiple achievement medals and received a “Below the Zone” rank promotion.

While serving in the Air Force, I attended the University of California at Santa Barbara in their professional level certificate program for Graphic Design and Visual Communication. After working with photography and photo development, I was excited to learn new ways to present my work. Adobe Photoshop 2.0 was my transition into cataloging images digitally and started my journey to Graphic Design.

It was a difficult decision, but I separated from the Air Force after my first term so I could be closer to my family. After returning to the St. Louis area, I began working for Color Associates as a production artist, putting my photoshop knowledge to use. In this role, I primarily worked on Texas Instruments trade show graphics.

After three years at my first private sector position, I was recruited to work at a rapidly growing agency. I never dreamed work could be so much fun! Working at Zipatoni gave me the Agency bug. I have spent the last 19 years primarily working in or freelancing in various Agencies in the St. Louis area. I have loved doing work for many Fortune 500 clients and I have gained a wide range of skills during this time. I usually find myself gravitating to highly specialized departments that allow me to create cutting edge visual for client solutions. I found working on these teams you have to dig into some of the corners of the software to be able to do things that most people are unable to do. Having an understanding of the “why” things work in certain ways is what allows me to push things further to get that extra impact.

Being an entrepreneur at heart, I found I enjoy working with local small businesses as well. Small business owners have so much passion in their work and it is very rewarding helping them grow their business. It also reminds you how important it is to have a personal touch and maintain strong communication skills.

Where do I go from here? My goal is to find is a new challenge where I can use my diverse skills to make a difference in a team environment.
